Artist Statement

My artistic practice focusses on changing how people relate to the sounds and the spaces that surround them, refocusing attention on listening in a visually dominant culture, promoting the value of preserving natural soundscapes, investigating issues related to invasive unwanted sounds, changing behavior related to issues of sustainability, and engaging a variety of audiences with these increasingly important issues.

My work capitalizes on new, emerging methods and trends by sitting at the intersection of art and science while also integrating technology through the spirit of growing trends in do-it-yourself (DIY) and Maker (low voltage electrical engineering) culture. I build on my history as a formally trained graphic designer, professional interaction designer, independent business owner, self-taught programmer, DIY electrical engineer, and perpetual educator. I develop each project to engage as many different audiences as possible through contextually relevant experiences.
